The Carbon Desk Pen Stand That Isn’t

As anyone who has followed this site will know I’m a bit of a fan of the Platinum Carbon Desk Pen so when I was browsing on Amazon and found a Platinum desk stand for it, I couldn’t resist.

My order was placed and a day or two later it arrived. The stand is packed in a basic carboard box and is a tight fit so I was a bit concerned that I might damage it getting it out of the box, but my fears were unfounded.

The stand is simple black base with a gold-coloured plate and fittings for the built-in adjustable cap. Overall it is a simple design, well executed and nicely finished and this is where it ended for me.

I removed the cap from my Carbon Desk Pen and put it in the built-in cap expecting it to fit snugly to prevent the pen from drying out. Instead, it rattled around and was about as likely to stop the pen drying out as I am to dip my toes in the Sea of Tranquillity.

I checked again to make sure it was listed as compatible, and it was, so then I looked and wondered if I had to leave the pen cap on before inserting the pen into the built-in cap but that just seemed pointless as the whole point of a desk stand is a place for your pens that makes them easily accessible and certainly not double capped.

So, this time I’m disappointed and I wouldn’t recommend this desk stand to owners of the Carbon Desk Pen but as I’m lucky enough to have quite a few pens I’ll keep testing them until I find one that fits.

Disclaimer: The desk pen stand was purchased at retail price with my own funds. The opinions expressed in this review are my own; and I am not connected with either the retailers or manufacturers in any way.

  1. Unexpected!
That must be disappointing. Almost the sort of fit quality you’d expect Platignum to produce… though I do still have a soft spot for their Silverlines purely for nostalgic schoolboy memory reasons.

    1. Hi
Thanks for reading the review, it sounds like your stand is a better one than mine; in mine the pen literally rattles around.
I might try a few other pens and see how it goes.
      Best wishes
