Some time ago when I was considering buying some pen blanks I came across The Turners Workshop and browsing the site I found they stock a range of pen storage solutions; however, the five pen leather pen roll, by The Northumbrian Pen Company, caught my eye. I didn’t buy one at the time but filed away a mental note to go back one day and have a second look at this pen roll.
Well time passed, and I finally got around to going back to the site and having a second look and for the price they are asking (£20.00) I decided to take the plunge and order one; and a couple of days later it arrived.
The pen roll comes well packaged in plastic wrapper and inside this the roll is wrapped in paper. I should point out that it arrives flat and as you can see from the images it has been packed with care.
It is made from a combination of thin brown leather and it is lined with soft cotton, the cotton is stitched to create the individual pen pouches, it has a leather flap (cotton lined) that protects the tops of the pens and the strap has a Velcro fastening.
Construction standards are good, and it is well finished, the cotton lining appears to be constructed separately and then added to the leather shell. The pouches comfortably take pens up to a Jinhao 159; I’ve tested it with an assortment of pens in different sizes and it rolls and secures without any problems.
I would certainly recommend it if you are looking for an inexpensive good quality pen roll suitable for everyday and any occasion; mine is the tan model but it is also available in black and a dark brown.
